Muchos pensaban que este año no se organizarían, pero finalmente sí se harán, aunque no de la forma habitual. The Game Awards 2020, la gala de premios de la industria de los videojuegos presentada por el periodista de videojuegos Geoff Keighley, anunció ayer su lista de nominados (con 75 videojuegos y 23 categorías diferentes) a unos premios que este año estarán marcados, como prácticamente todos los eventos, por la pandemia de la COVID-19 por la que todos estamos pasando.
Entre los más destacados, nos encontramos a The Last of Us 2, con ni más ni menos que 10 nominaciones, entre las que se incluye el principal premio de la gala: el Game of the Year (juego del año). También, una de las mayores sorpresas de este año ha sido Hades, con 9 nominaciones (incluido el GOTY). Este reciente roguelike, en poco tiempo (y gracias a varias promociones de la tienda de Epic Games), ha calado enormemente entre los jugadores, sobre todo entre los más adeptos de este tipo de videojuegos.
Los otros nominados al premio GOTY son Ghost of Tsushima, Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing: New Horizons (uno de los videojuegos más comentados en Twitter, y el videojuego estrella en España y en todo el mundo durante los diversos confinamientos en la primera mitad del año) y Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
La ceremonia se presentará el próximo 10 de diciembre de forma digital. Debido a la pandemia de la COVID-19, el evento, que hasta este año se organizaba de forma presencial y con público, se realizará en Los Ángeles, Londres y Tokio, aunque se hará con un equipo de producción reducido y sin público. La retransmisión se realizará a través de 45 plataformas digitales diferentes de todo el mundo (entre ellas Twitch, la plataforma de streaming de más éxito en la actualidad).
